Dreaming of a better life with more family time was the catalyst for Mike and Kristine’s transition from the corporate world to becoming real estate investors and entrepreneurs. In 2005 Kristine and Mike began investing in real estate with a goal of owning 10 properties which became a reality by Spring of 2010. The short stay industry offered a spectacular opportunity for revenue and growth. With demand for accommodations increasing faster than the supply of 20 properties by 2012 they began managing homes for other investors culminating in a year over year growth rate on average of 45 to 50%.
Systems development and a strong management team were the keys to prosperity. What transpired was the largest furnished and vacation rental company in Ontario and perhaps beyond. Smart Stays Incorporated became a unique and successful pioneer in Ontario’s short stay accommodations industry with Mike and Kristine driving new business while also developing ways to increase profits for vacation rental homeowners.
Born and raised in Niagara, Mike’s local knowledge of real estate and tourism was key to the start up success of Smart Stays. An early management career in both corporate and government environments served as a great stepping stone to launch Smart Stays Inc. Ecommerce development, a proficiency in hospitality operations and financial acuity are some of the high level skills which Mike calls upon to achieve success for his clients. One of Mike’s key attributes includes navigating regulatory legislation and communicating with various government bodies to serve clients’ needs. Mike is the founder of the local Short Term Rental Association and now sits on its Board of Directors. Mike has shared his knowledge and experience with over 100 investor clients since 2012, educating them on this fabulous industry and its benefits.
Hospitality roots and personal development goals have proven to be advantageous as Brittany excels in her career with Smart Stays Inc. Rising through the ranks to become Operations Manager Brittany displays a keen sense of judgement and outstanding attention to detail. In this burgeoning vacation rental industry, management is required to think strategically and embrace inevitable frequent technological changes. Multitasking, corporate communications, customer service and mental agility are some of the mandatory skills Brittany calls upon to ensure operational excellence at Smart Stays. With a wide range of responsibilities and daily client demands, Brittany depends on her experience to showcase Smart Stays as the dependable and trustworthy brand that both customers and investor clients have come to know worldwide.
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER
A true passion for people and a work ethic that is second to none, Kristine transitioned from a consultative role in the public sector to an executive management position and co-owner of Smart Stays. In addition to overseeing operations and managing more than 50 staff during peak season, Kristine’s décor and property staging proficiency can be credited to the success of over 120 client vacation rental locations. Kristine’s broad skill set is called upon regularly for input as a visionary, operational expert and scalability consultant .
CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Kris Parthiban has over 20 years of senior executive experience in corporate finance, operations to general management and in varied industries. Kris has held senior positions in several corporations: Board Director, CEO and COO at Imex System Inc., Director of Engineering at Hallmark Cards, Vice President at Newstar Technologies, President of Crystonics Limited, a fiber optics company. In addition to being Smart Stays fractional CFO, Kris is in the management team of OneQode International Ltd., a division of OneQode Holdings Inc., an internet infrastructure company, and a Board member of Blockgration Holdings Inc. He has served in business and community services organizations. Kris has M. Eng. and M.B.A degrees from McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario.
